No matter your employment status, you need to use your time wisely while looking for a new job.  If you believe you aren\u2019t being as productive as you would like to be, alter your time management strategy for a more effective use of time. Here are some best practices to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only Apply to Relevant Positions <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  1. It’s not in your best interest to apply to every open listing you find. There are a few things to feel out. Make sure you feel confident you would enjoy working at the company you’re applying to.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Read the job description and ensure you would not feel overqualified if working the job day-to-day.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. On the flip side, ensure you’re not applying to jobs you’re completely unqualified for. A high level of discretion will ultimately help you by not wasting your or the hiring manager’s time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Establish Time Management Goals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    When reevaluating your time management system, it\u2019s important to create realistic goals.<\/a> For example, you don\u2019t want to set a goal of having a new job by a certain date, because if that date passes, you\u2019ll feel discouraged. Instead, focus on what you can achieve that\u2019s within your control, such as setting a goal to apply for a certain number of jobs per week. It\u2019s realistic and in your control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Adapt Your Time Management Habits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Lastly, be aware of what\u2019s working and what\u2019s not. If you\u2019re not hearing back from employers, it could be a sign your resume needs some tweaking.<\/a> You’re wasting time by continuing an ineffective strategy. It could also be a sign you\u2019re applying to the wrong type of position, so take every factor into consideration.
