{"id":1703,"date":"2020-02-14T23:57:13","date_gmt":"2020-02-15T07:57:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/addison.lwh.dev\/insights\/ok-boomer\/"},"modified":"2020-02-14T23:57:13","modified_gmt":"2020-02-15T07:57:13","slug":"ok-boomer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/addisongroup.com\/insights\/ok-boomer\/","title":{"rendered":"Taking Aim at &#8220;Ok Boomer&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Recently, just two words have been causing trouble in offices across the country. \u201cOk Boomer,\u201d the latest universal response to just about anything \u2013 and usually coupled with an eye roll &#8211; &nbsp;has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/10\/29\/style\/ok-boomer.html\">some sociologists<\/a>&nbsp; declaring total \u201cgenerational warfare.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wait a second \u2013 what? If you\u2019re thinking \u201cthat can\u2019t be\nright,\u201d it\u2019s because it\u2019s not. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addison Group recently surveyed over 1,000 full and part-time employees, revealing that, contrary to what popular media might lead you to believe, there truly is no evidence to support this \u201cgenerational warfare according to our report, <a href=\"https:\/\/addisongroup.com\/insights\/insight\/age-is-just-a-number-the-truth-behind-generational-stereotypes-at-work\/\">Age is Just a Number: The Truth Behind Generational Stereotypes at Work.<\/a>, over 90% of employees are satisfied with the diversity of age ranges in their workplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The data doesn\u2019t have to speak for itself though. Our very own People Strategy Associate Tyler Cahill connected with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitaljournal.com\/business\/q-a-data-and-the-truth-behind-ok-boomer-in-the-workplace\/article\/566656#ixzz6DJ5mrMzB\">Digital Journal<\/a> and broke down the &#8220;Ok Boomer&#8221; phenomenon and  just some of the interesting takeaways from our study. We\u2019ve highlighted a few of them for you here. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Digital Journal (DJ): What is the current variation in\nterms of workplace demographics?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tyler Cahill:<\/strong>Workplace\ndemographics vary widely from industry to industry, but Millennials currently\nrepresent the largest labor market share across any single generation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, age will likely not be the defining factor when it\ncomes to workplace demographics in the future. We\u2019ll likely see more diversity\nand, as students stay in school longer, higher education levels begin to be the\nfocus of the workplace demographic conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DJ: How important is a diverse workplace?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cahill: <\/strong>Diversity\nin the workplace is important for a variety of reasons, but especially when it\ncomes to decision making. Heterogeneous groups tend to provide multiple\nperspectives, allowing for a more thorough discussion on a problem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, there is\nanother word that usually follows diversity that should not be overlooked &#8211;\ninclusivity. A company cannot just set an arbitrary diversity goal and hope for\nbetter results. If your environment does not encourage different points of\nview, then it is less likely a diverse workforce will be able to thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DJ: Should employers be doing more to encourage boomers?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cahill<\/strong>: Employers\nshould be doing all they can to show that company initiatives benefit all\nemployees rather than just one generation of people.
