Don\u2019t Be Shy in Meetings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Always\nbe prepared with something constructive to say in every meeting. This can be\ndone even if you don\u2019t have something about the topic to contribute.  You can advocate a co-worker\u2019s point-of-view\nor ask a meaningful\nquestion as well.  As long as you are contributing in a constructive manner,\nyou will be remembered for your efforts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dress for Success<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

While we are told we shouldn\u2019t make snap judgments\nwhen meeting new people, do not assume that people will follow that rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Studies have shown that\npeople make a judgment based on their first impression of you within the first\nfew seconds.  This means you only have a few\nseconds to make a good first impression and establish yourself as a professional\nperson during a meeting, networking event or a job interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Make Allies Both High and Low<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Be\nas attentive to everyone,\nfrom the mailroom clerk to the CEO. Because you\u2019re\nnothing without the entire team of employees on your\nside.  There is also a chance the\nmailroom clerk may be your boss\u2019s niece or nephew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Focus on the Results, Not Just the Tasks<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Having a results-oriented mindset means that you focus on\nthe \u201cwhy\u201d of a project, instead of just the mundane tasks of getting it done.  \u201cWhy\u201d does this project exist and what is the\ndesired result?  This shift from focusing\non just the \u201chow\u201d of the project can be motivating and help you to finish the\nproject more efficiently and eagerly. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be\nOpen to Feedback<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

When\nyou feel like you have done a good job, receiving feedback that suggests that\nthere is room for improvement can be difficult. Learn out how to take it constructively\nwithout taking it personally. Commit to taking it as a learning experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And when you have done all those things, don\u2019t be afraid to ask for what you want.  Let your manager know that you would like to  move up the ladder and ask what steps are needed to get you there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
